Before and After

Note:  All photos/morphs below are of actual patients treated in Dr. Gorton and Dr. Schmohl's office

Deep Bite / Impacted Canine

This patient came to us with a deep bite and the bottom front teeth almost touching the gums behind the upper front teeth. Also, the upper right canine tooth  was stuck very high up in the gums. Traditional Orthodontics would have used the extraction of the teeth immediately behind the stuck teeth. Instead, we used friction free braces to bring the tooth down to it's correct position and to achieve a perfect smile for our patient. Also, in our office we use two extra little braces (bite plates) that help correct a deep bite more efficiently resulting in a shorter treatment time which is prefered by patients.

Open Bite

For this patient we first controlled her thumb sucking habit with a combination expander/habit appliance. We also added some tongue training wires to keep her tongue from holding the bite open. It is a lot easier to correct a thumb sucking habbit when a child is younger and it reduces the chances of them getting teased in school or at slumber parties because of their habbit. Traditional Orthodontics would have involved a sharp row of wires "Rake", whereas our philosophy focuses on a non punitive approach. This resulted in a tremendous improvement that was accomblished just in her phase 1 treatment, while she was still young.

Crowding

For this severe level of crowding we used upper and lower expanders and then a "bug" appliance to move the upper teeth back in order to make room for the stuck canine teeth which can be seen sticking out of the gums. Later the patient received braces to finish straightening her teeth and give her a "knock your socks off" smile.

Traditional orthodontics would have resulted in the extraction of 4 permanent teeth to make room where as our non extraction philosophy is to make the space needed at a younger age allowing to avoid more invasive extractions later.

Excessive Gum Tissue (Laser Treatment)

These photos are from one of our patients where we used a diode laser to smooth away the extra gum tissue at the upper front teeth. The result is that the gums look healthier, and less puffy so the teeth look longer and more esthetic. This really improved his smile.

We are currently in the process of adding more Before-and-After cases. Please come back at a later point in time to see more success stories.
