Appliance Care

To successfully complete the treatment plan in the estimated time, the patient must work together with the orthodontist. The teeth and jaws can only move toward their corrected positions if the patient consistently wears the rubber bands, or other appliances as prescribed.  Damaged appliances lengthen the treatment time.

It is also very important to brush your teeth 3 times a day and floss at least once a day. Dental floss is the only way to check whether food is stuck between your teeth. If oral hygiene is not properly maintained during orthodontic treatment, the gums may become swollen and start to bleed. Special care, including brushing the gums gently and rinsing with mouthwash or warm saltwater or hydrogen peroxide mixed 50/50 with water, usually helps return the gums to a healthy condition.
